Very striking scenery Erithacus. I really like the way you silhouetted the fellow in the first image, but I would consider cropping the area to the left of him, as I don't think it quite matches the nice geometry of the right.
As for the 2nd image, this seems like an adventure scene. I love the way the woman is walking in the center and how she's well lit. I don't like the other folks in the boat behind her however; like the first image, I think they simply don't match up with the power of the right side of the image. I would therefore considering making it a square image by cropping some off the left side.
Oh, and incredible sky!!!!!!!

Beautiful photos, Erithacus! I think it's interesting how different the two images are, even though the location, lighting, composition and general subject is so similar. The first one looks like a classic National Geographic photo and I agree with GB1; the second looks like an adventure travel photo.
I don't have much to offer on the first one. Greg said he thought you should crop from the left. I don't agree with that. I think maybe cropping a bit from the top and then brightening up the left a bit to even out the exposure would get that one about perfect.
I do agree with Greg on the second one. The people in the boat sort of clutter up the story the image tells. It feels to me like that photo is really about those people setting foot on the shore. I would try cropping so just the first person on the boat shows and then crop some from the top and bottom to keep the proportions the same.

Thanks for your suggestion. As for the 2nd image, by making it a square one will remove the clouds. The clouds add interest to the photo.

Excellent work. I was really happy to see these
Thanks for the compliment, John. I was walking on the beach looking for subjects for sunset shots. Then a boat came back from an islands hopping trip. I quickly looked for a
good spot to capture the boat and the tourists as they were getting down.
Image #1 is my favorite. I agree with John it has a Nat'l Geo feel. The sun is very dominant and a bit distracting. However, that is a minor issue. Great capture!

Yeah - I see what you mean about the sun. That's a tough problem, though. I think the sun is an important compositional element in this photo and I wouldn't want to lose it. I'm not sure what the exposure settings or camera were for this photo. But I think a darker exposure to hold more highlight detail, followed by some careful shadow adjustment in post made have balanced it out a little more. That said, the sun doesn't really bother me much. No photo is perfect and we just do our best to juggle all the competing elements. Overall, I think Erithacus did a great job with this photo.
