in all honesty, i dont like it at all.

    1. the flower is dead centered
    2. nothing special about it, a kid with dads point and shoot camera could do this.
    3. go out and try again

    Re: Blooming spikes

I looked at it for a little while, read his post before me, and then looked once more.

I have to say. I like the colors in the flower bud, light soft purple, and the white almost looks like pearloid, and it has a nice depth of field. If it was taken from a bit farther back as to incorporate other objects, it would add a better feel to the shot. The name is too harsh for the subject. The soft purple colors make it so that the petals dont need the name of "Spikes". And also, he was right about the dead center, i think taking the shot from a bit farther back would have made this a bit more interesting.

    I say good job, 7.6/10

you know theres something to be said about having tact, especially when your post counts up to only 9.

anyway - i might have stopped it down a very tiny amount to get more of the flower in focus. it looks like you did good with the focus on this except the very bottom of the flower seems slightly soft. im not a rule-nazi either, if dead center works then dag-nabbit, dead center works! this isnt an example of dead center working, though. and whilst the leaf on the upper right of the shot provides a fair backdrop, the rest of the backdrop is a little uninteresting. a very cool flower though! if you could go back to it, I'd try some different angles. I had a similar shot to this, sometimes its just a matter of adding a stronger subject, or a weaker subject that will compliment the flower.

i also totally disagree with the name blooming spikes...

I say go back again, take improvement shots, and then go back again during its full bloom and take one of those. :-) Looks like it would be really neat in full bloom

I think taking a shot a day would make an interesting series.

    Re: Blooming spikes

Thanks for your comments guys. I went back today and it was fully bloomed but the light was just way too harsh today. I'll have to try tommorrow morning or afternoon. I also got some nicer angles in mind.
