    Bird

    http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pi...&id=1013078477

I know its not good, but what can be worked on?
Im still tinkering with the camera and such, trying out A and S modes and playing with white balance ( which I actually got a hang of today :aureola: )

But I am still pretty confused with all this... ugh.:mad2:

    Let me know,

    I would suggest:
    1. Post your pictures here in the critique forum, more members will look and post if they don't have to chase down the pictures.
    2. While B&W is a neat medium there are times when a photo cries out to be shot in color, such as sunsets, colorful birds, I can remember when color film was harder to find than B&W, and sometimes impossible.
    3. You used an extremely shall depth of field, bluring the body of the bird, I think a deeper DOF would have worked better, slower speed and smaller apature

The concept of the photo is excellent. So keep trying and do not loose your desire to experiment.

Echoing what slayman said, you will get a lot more comments on your photographs if a person doesn't have to click a link to see it. You can either use the little yellow symbol next to the blue globe symbol and post a direct link to your photo like this:

All you need to do is paste the direct link to your photo in the box.

Or, this site will host your photo for you, if you scroll down below the text window and use the upload photos button. Max size is around 290k and 800 pixels on the long side. Another bonus is if you leave the "add the photos to your member's gallery" you will have a copy posted to a free gallery here.

I like the mood of this photo, and I do like black and white. But I agree with slayman, a bird like this screams to be shot in color.

Im still trying to figure out how to get my pictures to not be 10 megabits... hehehe ;)
When i posted I thought the link would show the picture, guess that was a fail. I will take some more pictures of him today and post on this thread. His colors are really amazing, I am just not sure if I can capture it properly.

    Thanks,

So the bird is being a spazz today. He will not stay still for adams, while last night he sorta just posed and stared into the lens like the perfect model .

I turned the camera to manual focus... and now all pictures are blurry, however my camera is awkward sometimes auto focus works lightning fast and other times I press and nothing happens. Stupid camera.

Also I think I may be misusing my lens - the following shot was taken in my room with 40-150 mm lens... I think im over doing it. comments?

    notice the blur?
I need a tripod very badly at the moment, lol. May just go out to best buy and pick one up.

Heres the info for the shot.
    F-5.6
    S-30
40-150 mm lens full extended, maybe one foot away from subject.
    WB- auto
    Gradation-auto
Metering- no clue... still utterly confused about this and how to adjust it. Camera manual sucks.
    No flash

Forgot at add - did some PP on it. Just some color saturation, the dresser in the back round was coming out way to light, needed to deepen the brown. Also darkened the shadows on the chameleon a bit. Brought out the green on the fake xmas tree a tad as well.

thanks for putting up with the silly new guy.

judging by the noise in the second picture, I'm assuming that these were taken in low light. My autofocus sucks in low light. turn on a lamp, open blinds, or use manual focus. good luck.

PS, my tripod is as important as my camera imo. I have one from Best Buy actually. Worked out, but I upgraded to a very expensive brand of tripod with ball head (more $ than my camera!), and I can't figure out how I ever had a sharp picture on the cheap tripod. worth every penny and more.
