    Question Beer Pour

This was an assignment for Project 52. Absolutely amazing amount of setup between the softboxes, white cards, reflectors, diffuser, etc...

Was not able to nail this on my first attempt (or 14th) but wondering if this one is polished enough for commercial work?

Looks good. Nice over flow on the glass, frosty bottle, perspective and composition.
I think that for commercial work the test is in the details: What's in the bottom of the glass? Looks like sand. One of Coronas identifiers is a wedge of lime in the bottle. I also feel that a drop of sweat running down the front side of the bottle would help make the beer look colder, that's what American beer drinkers want. I should know.
Nice work. I can appreciate all of the effort.

Great exposure. lovely colours. you nailed those. the pour is also very nice.

my only thing about this one, is that it looks flat. the base of all three elements here seem to be the same distance from the viewer giving it a flat look.

other than that looks good to me.

Bottom of glass - bubbles (more obvious full size)
drop of sweat - without having glycerin available, highly unlikely. hard enough to catch the bottle tilt and head at the same time while hitting the remote shutter.
Lime - would need to remove cap which introduces other issues (like how to do so without disturbing the "sweat") something to consider for next time.

Still haven't worked that out yet. This was shot at like f/16 to keep everything in focus that needs to be. Maybe a few carefully placed flags (black cards) would give more of a sense of depth.

After 3 hours and 5 beers spilled all over the back patio, I wasn't ready to prolong the agony further

Is it an ad for the bar or the beer?

Visually, this looks great Jim. I like the colors and diffused like softness throughout. I might consider lightening the bottom of the glass to give it a more refreshing sparkle.

I am also wondering what this ad is for, perhaps in its intended context it may be more clear.

    Nice work

This was an assignment for project 52:

One year - 52 weeks of assignments, critiques, discussions and more.
The goal is to prepare the emerging shooter to be a working professional through a comprehensive, synergistic approach.

There was no real or fictitious client, simply to be able to catch the event in an interesting way.

Great capture. But, the background looks really bland, I dont think the tone or the texture or the luminance of the background work with the subject at all.

I know little of this type of photography Jim. But I suggest improvements could be made by not having the wooden thingy under the glass. Is the table a wooden surface? It seems too similar in tone to the liquid or is this all down to the reflection.
I agree with Anbesol regarding the background. Perhaps a sunny background (shouting thirst!) Would work. A bit cliched I know but most drink adverts are exactly that.

Interesting observations. Did a quick google image search for "beer ad" and found the backgrounds (that didn't have hot models) split about 50/50 between light and dark, indoor and outdoor. Near the top of the list was this shot http://www.televisionbroadcast.com/u..._News/Beer.jpg which is fairly close to what I produced except they thew on a blue gel for the background light (maybe something to consider adding in post).

The lighting does look quite nice, the hard work shows. It is difficult to know if the ad would be selling the restaurant or the beer. One thing I noticed was that a foam pattern seems to be coming the the fish's mouth, looking as if the fish maybe had too many Coronas himself. A client could pick up on that since there was a controversy on patterns in such things as foam a few years back.

OK I've decided that since this seems to be a huge mental sticking point for the audience, the ad is to announce that the now defunct Shell's restaurant chain is going to start carrying Corona as of Cinco de mayo (may 5th)

I don't know that the head falling across this fishes mouth is nearly as strong a subliminal message as the graphic artists that used to airbrush phallic symbols into the ice cubes for the Scotch & Bourbon ads but I'll keep in mind for the future. To be honest, of the 800 things to worry about going wrong doing this type of shoot by oneself, that was squarely at the bottom of the list this time :wink5:

I'm sorry, I meant that to be a very minor observation. I guess the point I was trying to make was that foam placement might be important. What I wrote does seem a bit silly.
