    The Beach

with Local Equalization applied. Seems to open a hole in the center, but lacks something there. Not sure what would have been good there though.

I like the drama in the clouds and the sky. I think I would like it more if the bottom third was cropped. Although I like a bit of foreground detail i think it distracts

    Holy dramatic batman!

wow, very strong image. Even if it leans toward the unrealistic it give off a very strong feeling and that's why it appeals to me.

Most definitely an eye catcher this one and it has good immediate impact whether one likes the effects or not.

    Re: The Beach

    Thanks for the feedback, fellows.

These type effects usually never make a neutral impression. So far the ones I've posted on PR have been mostly favorable, say 80/20, but I'm careful which I apply the effect too. It definitely doesn't work on every photograph.......

Shooter, I agree that the bottom rock seems out of place here. But I felt that clipping off the bottom 1/3 would make it seem clipped off, if ya know what I mean. Maybe should have moved forward more before I shot?

Love the effect. Nice and strong, dramatic, like the crashing surf on the coast. The foreground rock does look odd, and I think I'd prefer the image if it was cropped, although it would feel clipped as you said. How about some vignetting in addition to a crop?

    How bout these puppies?

If someone wants to take a crack at cloning out the bottom rock pls gopher it (that's a lot of work)

Russian-bear, I've yet to try HDR. It's on the list, this Fall......

Last one on the right is the winner. Only issue I have is the noise. Do you have noise-ninja? Run a profile of the sky and see how it will improve.

    Re: The Beach

fx - Well, actually, the Local Equalization filter adds a lot of noise. It's part of the effect with the filter. It might not work in all situations, and I guess I could mask off certain areas and apply less or no filtering on those. -Gb

    Re: The Beach

i like the filter you used. very dramatic and the colors/contrast came out good. i like the 2nd cropped image you posted, takes away that rock in the foreground that i found to be a little distracting.

    Re: The Beach

Thks slayer -- It was Mr Yuck's idea for the vignette in the 2nd crop, btw. That rock really stuck out ... I too think it works better w/o it.
