    Baseball 2 - retake

I went and took the suggestions given and retook the baseball shot tonight. I think I like this one more. Let me know if it is better...

I like it. The rustic look really works here. The placement of the ball and its size emphasize it really well. The textures also help. nice shot.

    Hmm.

Not sure, Dave. The ball is OK though perhaps slightly washed out. It is fading on the back side, which I view as a mistake. The out of focus Grip text is fine cause it adds some character, but to me there's just to much out of focus stuff here. What I find distracting is how the entire shot has the same tonal range. Some folks may like that however.

Thanks for the comments. Personally I dont mind the monotones too much. I do see a lot out of focus, because of how I was set up (f5.6 at about 280mm). Right now I'm not sure what else I could do with it, other than get a bit more in focus... it was just a random shot to start with anyway.

I think you have something here that is worth fooling with.

I think your first image mixed with a bit of this would work. I liked the distance from the subject and the contrast in the first image, I like your placement of the ball in this one but your DOF is too shallow.

I'm thinking that if you keep fooling with this you are going to end up with a really nice still life.
    No, I DON'T need that.

I like the DOF here, I missed the first post. My thinking would be to get as shallow as possible creating a nice bokah with the glove. Perhaps a slightly newer ball giving you more tonal range with the off white and red threads?
Please ask to edit photos and I'll do the same!
    Thx, Rod

    Hmmm
I like the picture but a little more contrast between the ball and the glove would have been cool...And speaking of the ball, if one side of it was scuffed up and dirty and the other side was fairly clean, I believe it would give it that contrast and used look about it that would really stand out...I guess having played ball for years and seeing my sons equipment is what got me thinking...Good shot though..

I'll have to keep trying it then. You should see another try in the next week or so.
