    bare butt and tiles

I have others that are technically better from a portrait standpoint, but this one really pulls at me. Going to print it ,and see how I like it, but thought I'd get some thought.

    Adina,

You were one of the very first to ever critique a post of mine, and gave me some invaluable insight. I've gone from being a really horrid photographer to simply a bad one, and I credit you as one of the folks who helped me to get there. Thank You!! LOL

As for this photo: I see why you're drawn to it. It's a great shot. There may be a thing or two to pick on but overall I think the good far, far, far outweighs the not-so-great (there's nothing in it that I can think is so very bad). For me, I might try running a shadow and hightlight or play with exposure (well, if you have CS2) to see if you could bring out his (or her) little face a bit more. Because he (or she) is just an adorable baby!

I think it needs a little fill flash on the face. Otherwise I love the shadowy look of the image.

    Re: bare butt and tiles

Thanks guys. There's no going back with this one, I don't have enough detail in the shot to pull out cleanly. I've got some others of him that are more traditional (at least traditionally me, what mom probably expects) but I'm trying to stretch some.

    Thanks!

Adina, Yep, just needed a bit more lighting in the face with a reflector or the likes. Everything else is very strong. I think you could pull out just a bit more from the shadows and get this improved some. I really like the whole composition. did you plan and set this up, or one of those spontaneous shots? Good work

I did plan this. This was for a 6 month old last Saturday. When I got to the house, I wandered around, and they had mentioned seeing something else I had done on a tile floor. They really liked the texture, and could we try something like that. We worked in this location from a couple different angles, and got some different effects.

    thanks

    I love this shot!
I love the simplicity of it, and the whole idea. The only thing that I'd suggest is to get rid of the shadow on the face. But other than that this is a great photo, I could see it on a greeting card or something.

    Re: bare butt and tiles

Adina, I love this shot from you. Much different from your normal style! I too am drawn in by the blacks. I also love the color tone, the texture of the tiles, and the smoothness of the baby's skin. As before mentioned, a drawback for me is the lack of detail in the baby's face. Also, I may have preffered a different composition with more space to baby's right rather than left, giving her/him something to look into.

Great shot, hope to see more like this "edgy" one.
