    Balance

I thought I would toss this out to see what folks thought. It is a candid of my daughter playing in a park. She was concentrating so hard on balancing that it caught my attention and I liked the background behind her.

You are really loving it here aren't you Marty!
I really like your composition here. The rock on the right helps the balance, if you'll pardon the pun lol. I love the way the sunlight isn't shining directly in her face but lighting her hair and her left side. And your dof is wonderful.
    Great job Marty!

    Re: Balance

For a candid, it's well composed I think.
Despite Alison's pun, I agree on the rock placement.

I'm seing a light purple tone in the wall, was that really there or did you have to do some asjustment to the image where that crept in?

    Re: Balance

    Thanks Alison and Paul!

Ah, someone saw my shameful little secret! The purple tint you see is the result of failing to change the white-balance from shooting at the Ice Arena during hockey practice earlier in the week. It was my first week with the camera and I was really starting to think there was something wrong with the LCD screen because the colors didn't look right, and I didn't think to check the white balance! As a result, every picture I took that weekend had a blueish tint to it. I worked to save this one because I loved the composition so much. All I had to work with to make it right were the skin tones and my daughters dress (which I got spot on!), but there are some lingering tones on the rocks that you are seeing. If I had been shooting raw then, it wouldn't have been a problem, but I hadn't started doing that yet.

All in all, I think it came out pretty well, and the purplish tones fit with the grey stones pretty well... Good eye Paul!

I really like this one as well. To echo the others, the wall is great, as is her pose. I love that she has her hands out, and the look on her face is perfect. I also really like her shirt and its colors...

Thanks Emily! She absolutely loves that dress. (It is bunched up and, since she is a 4 year old and doesn't quite grasp the concept of keeping ones panties to ones self, we maker her wear pants under most of her dresses.) It is very pretty and she, like her mother, loves purple! She is a bundle of contradictions, very girly, yet plays hockey. Loves pretty dresses, ballet, tap, and princess stuff, but wanted to be a Power Ranger for Halloween!

Thanks again for taking the time to comment!

I just KNEW she was four!!! My oldest will be 4 on the 20th, and today is wearing a purple dress over pants...hehe.
And mine is also quite into ballerina dresses and princess stuff. It's a great age.

    Emily,

Enjoy your last year with her before she becomes a big school kid! There are new joys to behold as they mature, but my wife and I treasure this time before the schools get their grips on them!

I like the Photo but there is something wrong with the colors? This just may look better in B&W.

    Re: Balance

Thanks for the suggestion freygr. I will have to try a B&W conversion of it (or maybe selective color, leaving the dress that Emily and my daughter like so much!
