It is a tad difficult to stage an image like this when the girl was laying into the bag with all her energy!!

The facial expression primarily does not display the effort necessary to be hitting the bag with a lot of force. Nothing in her stance or in her arms either shows any sign of muscles used and effort expended. Even the guy holding the bag looks too "casual and relaxed"!

It appears now Ronnoco is an expert on boxing and human anatomy...This image was shot at the beginning of the session and I can tell you she did eventually work up a sweat...It was shot to promote boxing as exercise for women for a gym..

Oh BTW,,she does punch like a girl!!!

Expertise is not necessary. Some background in coaching, participating in sports, and photographing it as well, helps. The point however is that the "look" has to fit what you are trying to portray. If it doesn't, then the shot is not successful and not effective.

    Re: On The Bag

Who cares if it was staged anyway?! LOL

I think a little rotation clockwise, to level the ropes or the window, may give more of a feeling of her laying into the bag though Jurgen. I like the blur of the arm too

It does look staged, she looks like she has a smile on her face, and generally when someone throws a punch your not smilling.

Yes,,,,1st curtain synch...60th sec was enough at close range to blur her arm,,expose the background and the flash enough to freeze the subject..

Much better. I can see her leaning now and the guy holding on and leaning into the punches. Neat!

You missed the point, Alison. It doesn't matter whether it was staged or not but...

    Re: On The Bag

I agree with Ronnoco, if it looks staged, even if it wasnt, it throws the effect out the wondow, and the fact that she IS smiling, or at least it looks like it doesnt help either. I think it has good qaulities (the arm and the rope/window) but i dont really like it, it doesnt really have the 'promotional' feel. It looks as if you looked at the bag and thought "HEY! that would be a cool shot!" and had someone stage it for you.
