    Bad picture of a daisy.......

Where did I screw up. Am I underexposed. I seemed to have a focus problem. I was sure I got this one right when I took it.

The exposure is fine. It seems blurry because either it is out of focus or camera shake (or both). It looks like you shot it on a cloudy day or in the shade (which are usually good) and perhaps the resulting shutter speed was too slow?

By chance do you recall the settings on your film camera?

It's not bad as long as you learn from it.

Hi Greg,,never underestimate yourself and never point out the poor qualities of an image you have posted..Like you said you are in a steep learning curve,,most of us here are also..You have the balls to submit images to these sharks and that is great...
Yes your image is out of whack and maybe a tad too central in composition but the exposure and lighting is good...Keep posting and learn..

You guys are good. It was just after a rain and it was cloudy. I had the camera set, 3.6 at f/250. I used a tripod and the timer to avoid shakes.

It looks like your depth of field was too shallow. The small buds and stems at the bottom seem to be in better focus than the flower, it appears that's where your focus point ended up. When you are dealing with such a thin DOF you must make double and triple sure that your subject is in sharp focus. You can increase your depth of field by narrowing your aperture and lowering your shutter speed. Also, do you wear glasses? Sometimes shifting the diopter on the viewfinder of your camera can help people with small stigmatisms to see the focus point more clearly. Good luck!

    Thanks,
I do wear glasses. I work hard on focus because of it. To bad Photoshop can't fix my eyes.

Aha! Do shoot with your glasses on or off? Try adjusting your diopter if you have one, it's a small slide switch just over top of your view finder. See if things resolve for you a little better. Also if you use or have a zoom lens you can zoom in to make sure the focus is correct and then pull back and re-compose.

Yes I wear them when I shoot. But my camera is so old I don't know about the slide but I will check. My new camera a Canon Rebel 2000 is AF. Maybe that will help too. Thanks for the good advise. I work very hard on the focus though.

Greg..There is a diopitor adjustment on your camera, but it may be hidden by the eyepiece. Take off the eyepiece and you should see it. I think maybe mirror slap caused the blur. It may have shook the camera just enough to cause blur. Everything else seems fine other than that. Its good to see another Roman on the boards...welcome

Thanks again, I will look for the adjustment. How about the Rebel 2000. Will the AF feature help? Also the camera is lighter will this help stop mirror slap? And thanks for the welcome. Maybe you guys can teach me a few things. I tried to take more pictures this weekend, but it's almost to hot. The sky is hazy and grey most of the day. But I tried anyways.....

The AF feature will help as long as your focussing point is on the area that you want to focus on. My minolta has 9 focus points and I can cycle with point I want to use to focus, however, I mainly use the center focus point because it is more sensitive. I hear ya about the heat, I work in it all day...
