    Back to Kenya...

    Color even....

How daring! Anyway, this is the same house as in the b&w. Had to wait for a better sky and head back for another shoot because the color/texture were awesome.

Payn, I can't help thinking that the picture could use more room in the very foreground. It seems to me that this house needs some more breathing space. Other than that, I like the colors and the structure itself. That's an interesting subject.

    Re: Back to Kenya...

This is my first critique here and if I overstep implied rules, please let me know.
I really like this picture, color, composition etc.

Like the prevous commenter, I think it needs a little more at the bottom. Also, the aspect ratio is strange and non-standard.

IMO, if you recop to a 4x6 ratio, adding to the bottom and subtracting from the right side, this will change the compositon, making the diagonal comie out of the upper left corner and trimming off the off-vertical right side of the fence.

I faked up the image a little so you can see what I mean. (picture, thousand words thing)

    No prob Lew.

    Seb, you are right.

I got another with about 3 feet in front of the door, so I'll use that one instead. Thanks for the feedback, don't know what I was thinking using this one. I've been so slack lately...sigh

    Re: Back to Kenya...

Payn, with colors like that I can't blame you for shooting it over, and over, and over...

It might be my monitor but is the saturation too high? I still like your black and white versions better. Perhaps the B&W's lend better to the mood/atmosphere of the subject matter. Just MO!

    Re: Back to Kenya...

I'm glad I waited on posting to your original Kenya Post...
The first picture I kept thinking- I love this composition, but I wish it were in color...

I love the color here, but definitely this composition doesnt hold the same ground the first did (for me at least).

I also agree with Loupey on the saturations, but overall, would love to see the original first post (*below) in color

    Re: Back to Kenya...

It really is better in composition. I really messed up on my last two photos. Meaning that I hastly processed them and posted, without much thought.

Here is the color version, no processing at all. The reds are still very vibrant. Perhaps my film?
Thanks to you all for your replies.

WOw. Great images. I really like the color against the starkness of the environment.

    Re: Back to Kenya...

    Wait a minute...

Payn, regarding the 2nd set of images, I prefer the color version over the B&W. The color version of the original post seemed too happy for that composition, but the color version in the 2nd seems to retain that somber mood that was evident in the original B&W. I think it is because the sky is washed out.

Still, that blue lawn chair kind of kills the effect from this FOV. Would you be so kind to show me one more view of this 2nd color scene? I'd love to see it centered on the red house at the end of the alley and cropped in just enough to not show the red house on the right nor the lawn chair on the left.

I'm really curious what this modified color version might look like

    Payn,

I think cloning out the chair would be better it gives a better perspective. Love the colours

    Re: Back to Kenya...

payn, these are great location/subjects. i like the colors in the first post, but I'm feeling also like others stated that it is shot too closely. Giving room at the bottom helped a bit, but I feel the big issue for me is the structure/wall on the right enveloping the entire side of the scene, giving no breathing room and throwing it off balance. i like the b&w version of the second image, even with the lawn chair

Some really interesting shots, payn. Love the contrast between the bright reds and the starkenss of everything else. Are these actually in Kenya? I may have missed another post dealing with this.

    Re: Back to Kenya...

    SHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

No, it's not Kenya. It is actually at the HQ of Habitat for Humanity, an interactive exhibit showing poverty in different parts of the world. It is kind of cheating, but I am still so new and just starting to learn, so it's ok to cheat a little.
