    Re: Baby Shoes

Alison, the colored shot does not do anything for me, but that is not to say there is anything wrong with it. I think it is framed well and the blue and green contrast nicely, perhaps a bit too saturated though. The b&w image is very good. The entire composition is strong and the tones are appealing. the bg of diagonals lines from the boards are very effective and simple. Something seems a bit odd about the childs leg in the image, notable the edges seem a little too sharp and jaggedy and something about where the top of the shoe meets the skin. Seems like the skin is almost going over the shoe at one point. Regardless of what may be causing this "illusion" for me I like the image alot.
    Well done

Thank you for your comments Gary. It's nice to know what other people think.

I think the sharp jaggedy edges of the leg in the B&W are caused by my baby girls excema. Her legs are covered in dry skin and blotches.
Other than I don't know what has caused that effect. I haven't sharpened it at all. It's actually sooc apart from the conversion to B&W.

Maybe I should stick to faces lol ;)

Nice blue and green saturation and contrast in the colored shot.

I agree with Gary that there is a technical issue with the black and white photo. Even the bokeh is blockish and I can see steps on the outline of the skin. Very curious.....was this taken at low quality on the camera? or cropped and enlarged in anyway?

What does SOOC mean.....I've been seeing it used alot lately.

    Thanks for sharing....

sooc is straight out of the camera.

In camera composition. No cropping no editing. Taken with a Canon EOS 350D 50mm 1.8 lens same as the coloured shot.

    Here's the colour version.

Alison...I looked at this a while ago, and didn't have a chance to comment. I can appreciate what you're trying to do here, and like the idea of Baby Shoes as a subject. What I would suggest though, like with the first color shot...is to get down as low as possible, even on your stomach, and snap a few from that angle.

The b&w image looks too much like a doll's leg and foot to me.

Would it matter if it was a dolls leg? LOL

I thought the same as Emily. The skin on the b/w image is very unnatural looking to me. It's not like that in the color image.

My favorite is the first, but then again I'm all about saturation. I just like her stance and the little rolled up cuffs and grass. It screams play time!
