    Baby Danielle - Newborn Shots

I am definitely loving doing newborn shots.... it takes forever though. This is Danielle and she is 8 days old. She was really good for most of the shots, although she peed on EVERYTHING that I brought, and she peed on both her mom and dad..

But overall, how did I do? Is there something different that would make them better? The drawing effect one also is in original but I liked it like this..hehe

    So.......here they are....

    Hey Chow,

I didn't think there was such a thing as newborn photography. I like them all. I wish I had pictures like this taken of me when i was that small! The drawing one is really something else. would love to see the original of that if possible.

I really don't know which one is my favourite, I like them all. Also, i can't find anthing to critique, they all look fine to me.

Here is the original 'in arms' picture...... Newborns are really one of my favorite things to shoot - if you go to my site, you can see alot more that I have done. It is alot of fun but time consuming as you work on THEIR timeline, no if, ands, or butts, about it! lol

Thanks! She was so tired by that point, we could have done pretty much anything too her. But, take note, IMMEDIATELY after this shot, she proceeded to pee on Daddys arm....lol

First two are a little over the top in my opinion, in the B&W one I consider the dark shadow too harsh (especially fort his subject) and distracting, it also looks like the baby is in a very awkward position (must be an illusion, but still…), 4th one is certainly nice, but only the original, in the last one the tone isn’t working for me and I find the jewelry(?) very distracting, but the smile is great.

The first two are fine compositionally, but I personally don't like the wings (obviously the parents did though). I prefer B&W when photographing any person, so that is my favorite of the bunch; the shadow does not bother me. For the fourth I like the original more, although I am interested to know how you created the drawing effect - I was looking into how to do that a few days ago and didn't find anything that was quite what I was looking for (cs3). I agree with Michael on the last, but there is a message with the jewelry so it all depends on the person viewing.

Re: Baby Danielle - Newborn Shots

Well, the last one was a requested picture, that is mom and dads rings. The 'in arms' pic I did the effect one more for myself then for the parents, that is why they get both, but they liked them both as well, The b/w one was not a planned shot, just one I happened to see while she was being cradled in moms arms, and the first two were what the parents wanted, something big and girly and 'over the top'.... I do like them, it is something different then I have done before but it was fun....

    Thanks for you comments.

I did the drawing effect in CS2 - one of the filters they have. (Can't think of the name offhand) It is fairly easy to do.
