I'm wondering whether it could be more effective with the right colours, say a blue sky and the structure to the right in bright red. If these aren't the original colours, you can always paint before shooting. Sorry, if these aren't appropriate B&W comments. Somehow I feel there could be more contrast.
I'm trying to learn to look at things in black and white to find the shots that are appropriate for the format. Well, that coupled with the fact the the light was going from bad to worse as an afternoon storm rolled in

Interesting to see the context. I think your original image makes very effective use of the subject. I didn't think of it before, but it is reminiscent of a giant, tsunami like, wave. I think you were unlucky with the bright cloud (which is a bit blown out in the original image). I found that slightly irritating and it stops you from adding more contrast. Still, I'm impressed with your original composition.
