    The Artist

    The Artist-artist-v-2.jpgHi all

Been a while since I've posted anything. Anyway, I have a new camera to reinspire me - a Pentax K-5 ii (my venerable K10 is now a spare). This was taken at a local park - the girl was painting and the red of her dress caught my eye. I must have taken a couple of dozen of her - she seemed either unaware or she didn't mind.

    Cheers

    Re: The Artist

Mike - Yes, long time. She has a fair bit of shadow on her which makes it dark and sorta hard to connect to the human element. I'm trying to fall back to the overall shape of the elements; tree, artist, easel, grass, but it's only partially working as they tend to merge into each other. I think you should keep most if not all of the top vegetation, but I would try a crop to make her a little bigger in the frame. Unfortunately this means cropping out some of the interesting grasses. Tough one .. I would really like it more if she was better lit. Where's the fellow with a reflector when you need him?

I like how the artist blends in with the environment rather than stand out from it. I think the red color draws the eye to the artist enough, but still lets her become just a piece of the composition. It's as if by painting the environment, she is becoming part of it.

I think this shot is lovely. I love GB1's comment "where is the guy with the reflector when you need him" haha it's so true! I see what he is saying with the cropping but I almost wish it was more of a panaramic (sp?) shot so I could see more of what it was she was painting. Don't get me wrong, I love the tree and grass and all, but I want to see what it is she's seeing that is so amazing that she had to paint it. But I see why this caught your eye, the red amongst all the green is stunning.
