    Re: Arch

Pete, except for the conduit running up the wall, this reminds me of some of the ruins I visited in Ireland. I think the image feels a little flat and needs more blacks and a little more contrast. To really be compelling, I think you will need to clone out the conduit.

I agree w/ Ken. Lovely composition, but feeling a bit flat. Another way to make it pop is to render it as a tritone or quadtone in photoshop.

    Conduit?
You mean the old fashioned lead drain and gutter box?
    I'd say leave that in.

    Re: Arch

Just for fun, I gave this the 5 minute run through photoshop, and this is what I came up with. I went to Image>mode and changed it from RGB to Grayscale then went back to the same place and the option "Duotone" was now available to click. went through the long list of options til I found one that looked good to me. Then switched it back to RGB color, cloned the small staff/conduit above the arch and resaved.

You may hate it, but this was simply to demonstrate the method and possibilities...

Pretty sure he was talking about the small stick or pipe above the arch sticking into the sky.

    Re: Arch

Thanks ken, Paul , and Jet. When I posted this I thought I'd pushed the contrast quite far enough but on reflection and seeing the edit, I have to agree a bit more helps. The stone texture is a major part of the image and needs to be out there but it makes the clouds a bit over the top IMO that's quite fixable with a layer mask. The pipe thing well........
I recall Jet mentioning duo toning some time ago but had completly forgotten about that method , thanks for the heads up

I like the sky in the original. I would either include all of the birdbath, if you cropped, or clone it altogether.

    Re: Arch

Thanks Greg, I think the bird bath should stay but maybe move it a bit further in from the edge.
