    Anza Borrego Desert State Park

Took a drive out there last week and shot a few. This particular shot sort of sums up what you see in this State Park.

    As always, all C & C welcomed.

I like the photo although is looks a little drab. It is a desert however so.... Anza is beautiful in the spring with all the flowers blooming.

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment Hex. I really appreciate it!

Anza is definitely desert --- and a big honking desert at that!

We sure had a good time driving around out there.

Thanks again Hex for your input.

Thanks again Hex and, thank you Dylan for your comments regarding over-sharpening. The prints look okay. So, you may be right about the compression.

I think we went on the perfect day to catch everything in bloom.

Thanks again for looking and for your good feedback.

    Penny,

Everything that I have read about sharpening is that you need to oversharpen for a print which might be why the photos look good printed but appear oversharpened on-line and compressed.

I just started to print at home about 2 months ago and sharpening seems like the biggest guessing game.

    Nice photos.

Re: Anza Borrego Desert State Park

    Penny,

You're in my back yard! Well, not really.. I live in San Diego but I've been out to Borrego so many times I've lost count. I think it's the second largest state park in the country.

I like the perspective of the second shot which shows the scale of the mountains and the rugged landscape. The two images definitely look very processed to me, .. almost HDRs. I am not even sure they look sharp, so is it a result of sharpening? (I suspect not.) You definitely need to make two different versions when sharpening though - one for viewing and one for printing.

I need to get back out to Borrego and do some camping before the heat shoots up...

Re: Anza Borrego Desert State Park

Thank you so much for all your input!

No HDR in my prints --- I don't care for the way Photoshop processes HDR and, I don't have the Photomatix software! I do try to photograph in interesting light --- even when I photograph in bright harsh sun, I try to make the most of it for maximum impact. I've tried to implement all the wisdom I've learned over 40-plus years of snapping the shutter, all the workshops I've participated in, all the comments from my employer, clientele and, most assuredly, the input I get from you folks here at PR. My images are not highly processed. I shoot in RAW, and I adjust the sliders in Photoshop's Camera Raw software in accordance with what I've learned directly from Julieanne Kost who works for Adobe Systems, Inc.

The most important thing I've learned in photography is --- even when you jump out of the car to get a grab shot, take TIME to compose. Some of my roadside grab shots take over 2 hours. :wink5:

I shoot local inexpensive places for families to visit for a publication here in the area where I live that simply asks for postcard quality work --- I always try to give them more. I will share with you that they are NOT always pleased with my work. :blush2: But then, neither am I.

Thank you once more for ALL your comments and input.

    My Best to You,
    Penny

Penny - Thanks for the info. I agree, composition is very important - probably in the top 3 most important things to consider.

Since you're in the biz, you may might find this article interesting btw:
