    Montauk Sunrise

I took this picture at around 4 am at Montauk Point, Long Island using Minolta Maxxum HTsi w/ f3.5-4.5 24-105 mm lens.

This is a really interesting picture. I really like it because it seems very unusual to me. I like the way the woman is dressed and sitting by what looks like the side of a busy road. The shadow really works for me as it looks like it might have been created by a passing car. Everything in this photo really makes it interesting.

    Re: Montauk Sunrise

Hi! Thanks for your reply. This shot was actually taken at an open eating area near a seaside restaurant/store. Since it was really early, there was no one there, although the lights outside the store were still on (which gives most of the lighting in the foreground). As for the dress, it's really just a big blanket (because it was cold). On the bench there are hot teas and cookies.

I think personally, what I am most disappointed at was how the moon came out in this picture. I did not like how the flare appeared (probably from dust on my uv filter or something)... I wished it came out cleaner and smoother than that...

I agree with Dadas. It's a sort of strange scene and atmosphere and the more interesting for that. The moon is not a great disadvantage to the shot. Perhaps you could clone it out alltogether if you are unhappy about it. But I would leave it. The white wall which catches the shadow and the lighthouse on the other side of it are features that add to the unusual feel overall.
A simple but extremely effective photograph.

I have a total lack of respect for anything connected with society, except that which makes the roads safer, the beer stronger, the food cheaper, and the old men and old women warmer in the winter and happier in the summer. Brendan Behan

    Re: Montauk Sunrise

I often think the early morning light adds a certain 'stillness' to photos - I'm not sure what it is. That and the bleak looking tree in the background makes for a very atmospheric shot.

I'd actually go for cropping to remove some of the sky including the moon.
