    Re: another skiing shot

I'd like to see more of the "spray", it looks like the snow spray on the right side of the picture goes farther out, and I think that it would add to the picture if you showed that part, and made the picture more of a "wide angle" shot.

you know, your right. origionaly the shot did go about another inch (in this size) to the right. but i lost the origional version and i got this from the computer of the skier, i gave it to him and he decided to crop it so it would fit better as his desk top. so, i agree, it would be nice to se more of the spray

    Re: another skiing shot

You need much more of the skier in the shot, which means a much better angle.

ok. i still like the lack of skier, but it seems i might be the only one. i was thinking about getting behind and to the side of the skier for my next shot.

sorry zl, i agree with ron on this one. Without a skier, it's just a snow spray.

    i know! and that's cool!!!
o well, maybe it isn't the greatest shot. this skier is just the greatest spray-er in the world, i'm just trying to show off his skills. i'm thinking of some ideas for next time we go skiing, and that might be tomorrow, if i get a GOOD spray shot, i'll post it.

i skied for quite a few years, have friends who are some of the best skiers in the state, and while it is cool, I don't think it necessarily makes a good photo. If Bode Miller was amazing at spraying snow, and a photojournalist caught this photo, I still wouldn't think it was that cool, if for not other reason than the fact there is no face to associate the spray with. Sports photography is all about faces.

And glad your mom likes it, but you'll learn pretty quickly that your parents are no real judge of what makes a good photo, as I did, haha.

we're not trying to be mean, we're just saying there are times you have to just know what makes a good photo and a not-so-good one, and this is one of the latter.

Gotta show the skier. A shot from the side showing the skier on the left and the spray all over the right would be great. Backlit would be even cooler.

ok, backlit, i hadn't thought about that.... it would help with a picture from the side.
i know no one's being mean. i post the photo in PHOT CRITIQUE for it to be CRITIQUED.
i appriciate everything that was said.
just for grins, does anyone like this photo better?

i didn't like it tha well because he's to dark, and i thought it was lame composition. but OTHER THAN THAT does anyone like this one better?

    Re: another skiing shot

yeah i do like it better, because you can see the face. looks too sharpened, as you're getting some noticeable haloing around the edges of his coat, but it's a better angle

    Re: another skiing shot

ok, the thing about it is, and this will me my last defending of the picture. the thing about it is, is that i was trying to get a shot of the spray, not the skier. i waited untill the spray was large enough to cover the skier for that reason, it's a picture of a spray, not a skier.
ok, i'm done. and i'll try to get a better one next time.
i went skiing today, but i couldn't bring myself to lugg that camera around.
it was kinda funny, i found these rock drops, about 15ft down, i was getting ready to do them when the two snobwoarders infront of me pulled out a disposable camera and asked ME to take their picture dropping the rocks. i think they kinda lucked out.
