    Another SF Sunset

I know this is a little dark, but I like it. Thoughts?

    Thanks,

Dark, brooding, could be a scene of a vampire movie ...

I wonder if the dark vignetted clouds are needed at the top, with that black border they seem superfluous.
There is more detail to be brought out in the black, I think.

Nice shot PC, don't change a thing. If anything it could be wider but the reflection is very good.

    Re: Another SF Sunset

    AE - Thanks, I think

Wombat - It's not my fault. My wife has been watching too many vampire movies lately. I blame her . I actually trimmed a little off the top and bottom already because I didn't think they added much.

Greg - Thanks. This was one of the last shots I took that day and I just now got around to processing things. We've got plenty of rain to keep us indoors. What better to do than play with pictures?

    Thanks,

Thanks Irina. This was taken from Emeryville, off of Powell Street near the freeway.

Dark? I don't think so. In fact I think it is a really nice photo. Even the frame you chose is very nice...and only at ISO 100...Was it on a tripod?

jgredline - Yes it was on a tripod. It was a 15 second exposure and I can't handhold that well.

Very good composition here PC; for me though I feel that it has too much of the same colour tones and the addition of the heavy gold/yellow pencil line all round exaggerates the sort of monotone (monotony) of it all. But this is totally down to taste and generally I don't think it really is too dark.

    Re: Another SF Sunset

For me it is a little dark and murky and maybe a little soft as well, but the whole effect is like one of a painting and so this still pleases the eye. I'm sure it will find it's way on someones wall.
    Nice work

I think it's too wide of a shot. Nothing stands out or is even particularly easy to see. And there's too much nothingness between the skyline and the bridge.

    Re: Another SF Sunset

I think this is great-unusual but great.

That there are 2 areas to get your attention on the edges without anything of note in the center of the image is not normally successful but since this is a cityscape I think it works very well.

I love the colors and reflections just as they are even though I suspect the color is off (too warm although I understand the West Coast has been having some great sunsets lately).

Print this one big and hang it on a wall somewhere.
    No, I DON'T need that.

I think its a great shot and is certainly benefited from the refelections and deep red sky.

    Re: Another SF Sunset

Just when I thought this was going to roll off the bottom...

Tom - Thanks for the feedback. Yes, there are a number of similar colors. Probably too much for many. I have gone back and played around with white balances and such to tweak the colors, but I personally like this one better. Do you have some specific recommendations to adjust them? I'm open to suggestions.

Gary - The overall darkness and mood was my primary concern. The original isn't really very soft. It was a long exposure, but it was on a tripod and I also used the mirror lockup when taking the shot. I think I lost some when I downsized for posting because there's quite a bit of detail in the original. Nevertheless, thanks for looking and commenting.

DrRoebuck - I share this same concern. The shot has the two bright areas, but I'm not sure how to reconcile them unless I find a different perspective.

yairh20 - Thanks. I'm glad you like it.

MB - Thanks for the feedback as well. It's nice to see you back on the boards again.

jmes10 - Thanks. I was lucky to be where I was.

Thanks again for the comments and great feedback. Many more things to remember for the next time I'm out there.

This pic looks like one of those fake (but nice) backgrounds they used to use in 1950 movies Just has that LOOK to it. .Very interesting, well done. It's almost like a painting.
