Not a bad shot Its a little bit on the dark/underexposed side, maybe if you got an external flash and angled it upward to bounce off the roof or a side wall it would add a great accent to your lighting.

    And welcome :]
I am mainly here to learn, I'm pretty new at photography so please don't be afraid to say whatever you need to if you're critiquing my photos, and take my composition advice with an extra grain of salt

Thanks for the comment. I am getting ready to try and do it again and I will place a fixed light to bring out more detail, the only concern I have is I want to try and keep a little bit of shadows near some of the muscles to give it a little detail.

Just to let you know, on my calibrated monitor, your photo looks heavily under-exposed.

    Re: Another new guy

I am attempting to get a dark look to this. I have done a lot of photoshopping on this photo. I am actually pretty happy with the overall look of the photo, the only thing that bothers me is that the skin is really uneven. I am going to add in that extra light to focus on the lower back and the sides to hopefully bring an even tone across the skin. I'll do another photo shoot and see if I can pull it all together with more lighting.

Unless I'm very mistaken and I might be, if you underexpose an image you will actually lose detail as the image will become noisy/ grainy.

Yes, the tat is a skull. I am going to do a reshoot and pull the camera back a little and add more lighting. I am going to try to get the tats on my arms in the photo and also have my arms to frame the back of my head. I like this shot, so I'm just going to try and change it up a bit and control the exposure more.

Here's another attempt at this shot. I have an idea what I want, I just have to keep fishing until I get it right. I did a lot of photoshopping on this one.

    Re: Another new guy

I can see that you are passioned for this line of photography.

I think I know what missing and funny enought it's not editing.

It's that sort of oil that body builders apply to their bodys when in competition, that should give it some real muscular definition and a glossy look, I think that's what you are after from what you mention before.

Also try to find something more appelling than the white/grey background.

Try it, I dont know if it will work, but there's nothing to loose in trying, experiment with flash/no flash, different angles, etc.

Google the internet for photographers that do this sort of work (modeling) have a look at the pictures that you like and what you like about them ex: poses, lighting, etc, etc

Dont just take a few shoots, take loads, you will have more odds in finding what you are after.

This should keep you busy for a while, but the rewards and knowlegue will be immense.

Just let me know if it worked or not, and sorry for the big thread

Ok, well I see the tat now, the gray background is kind of, well, boring. What look are you going for with the photo? Think in color, nice tat too!
