    Angry Disappointment

This is another of the series i shot on that one street... here the sun was about to completely set, and the streets lights did not kick in yet... so i had to try and enhance the image with levels... I also cropped in post since i could not really ask him to give the same expression and walk by again.... ...

Good shot with strong expression. You have to wonder about his thoughts. Isolation of the subject with DOF is very effective.

Another title could be "Having a bad day" or "Grumpy old man"

Nicely captured, I really like the lighting and the DOF and the colours.

    The expression is priceless.

Good capture but based on the amount of clothes he's wearing It should read "I'm cold as hell."

Aesthetically, I like this very much. I like the subtle lighting on the subject and his placement off to the side. The elements of the cars mirrors do not distract, but i do not feel they add anything either. His expression is what holds our interest here. The only weak side of this picture is not having anything relating or contrasting to the mans expression. I feel I need a little more information to gather a story here, but I still feel it is good.

    Thanks guys, appreciate it....

Roger - the reason i chose this title, was due to location... this is a street in Lebanon... it is one of the "old" streets of Beirut, and is now the center for 10's of pubs and retaurants...With the situation as it is too...It just felt like the most appropriate title...and yeah i was afraid he might remember a joke and lose the expression....

    Just read the other posts:
Jim- yeah it was cold as hell indeed.... i was freezing...

Gary - i agree, unfortunately it was a "grab-shot" (if there's such a name) and i didn't have much time to control it...

    thanks for the commments guys...

    Re: Angry Disappointment

Well, as a starting point, you caught the expression well, but a lot of postprocessing is necessary to make it really effective. The lighting on his face needs improvement. It is too dark. The wrinkles on his face and in his clothes can also be emphasized better. Distractions such as the mirror on the car and assorted colours in the background need to be taken out as well.

Jay, Greg - Thanks for the input...

Ronnocco - Any suggestions as to how these post-processing should be done? I am "fluent" in PS, and i know i could have spent more time with this one... i still have the RAW image of course, and would appreciate any hints you might have... Otherwise duly noted...I'll try them on my own and post once "fixed"...

    Thank you

Select the face and the body of the man using either the magic wand selection tool or the freehand tool with edge seeker on. Use CURVES and the bottom area of the line pulling it to the left to brighten the shadow area. A better solution is using software filters from a third party in your plug-ins folder but that is a different story. Taking out the mirror in the background is by using the cloning tool Brightening the man and his clothes and adding a little selective contrast can wrinkle the clothes a little as well.
