    Angel of the Mourning

Good afternoon, all. I'm new here ;)

I'm Rick in Indianapolis and working on my photography skills.

This shot was taken yesterday (March 16, 2008) at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis. Any critiques are much welcome!

Love the angel, hate the background.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    Because of the barren trees?

Because they are in focus and too clearly outlined against the sky.

Is the picture supposed to be in black and white? I agree with MB1it the trees were blurry then the angel would apear that much crisp and clean. She would "pop".

It's edited into Sepia, which I thinks makes it much more interesting. I LOVE the idea of unfocusing the trees.

Which gives me the perfect excuse to go back out there and reshoot. ;)

Very valid points by MB and AW. On the plus side, I think the sepia works very well with the subject. With the right light, you managed to capture lots of detail in the stone. Also, the composition has an interesting crop... the head isn't centered (many people would put the head right in the middle of the frame). So, re-shoot and blur those trees with a larger aperture or use the blur tool in Photoshop and you'll have a very interesting image. Look forward to seeing more of your images.

Thank you all for your comments. I'm glad you noticed the crop. I experiment with several crops, but, for me, putting the head in the center made it too...symmetrical? I found off centering it a bit made it interesting.

So, I'm going to go back out, and do some reshooting.

Just not tonight with all the heavy tstorms rolling through. ;)

    Thanks again!
