    Re: Amsterdam

It looks as if the blue sky reflected in the water has "blued" out the boats also. If some white was returned to the boats, an already very enjoyable image would become even better.

    Liban -

I was hoping to see something in the evening from the canals when I saw you posted this. I was not disappointed. I see what Tom is saying about the blues on the barges, I assume this was an incandescent (or similar) white balance issue. Still it's all that variety of blue that makes me like this so much. There's a real tranquility that exists and blue is at the heart of it.

The composition is excellent, just layer after layer of interest without being cluttered, you've always had a good eye for such scenes. In fact, now that I'm thinking about, you could probably assemble a small and attractive book with all of the evening canal and city scenes you've done and posted.

I think, if it had been me, I would have preferred a WB setting like this over one that preserved the whites but let in too much green or yellow.

    I like it!

I really like this picture, all the blue really give it a very relaxing feel. I also like how the building in the back stands out. Excellent picture.

Great image. Really communicates a feeling to me. I see what Tom is saying about the blue in the boats, but I'm not sure I mind it. Like CL said, it's the variety of blue...

Amsterdam is a place I've been wanting to visit for years and this great capture only adds a sense of urgency to my longing.

Hey Liban - The upper part works well. I like the buildings and the way the gold and blue contrast. As for the bottom half, just too blue for me (got the blues!)...... boo hoo, blues! Almost seems PP'd to be that way.

We all see from our own perspective! :wink5:

The blues are not what I'm going to nit--pick about in this gorgeous shot of Amsterdam, its that pesky sign over on the left that says nothing and just looks blown out, that's my silly nit-pick on this one.

But, I thank you for sharing this one with us and I'm anxious to see MORE.

    Re: Amsterdam

The two things that really bug me are the lights above the building and the sign which keeps pulling my eye from a beautiful scene.

Lights should be easy to clone out but the road sign a tad more difficult.

I loved the shot until Penny pointed out the sign. .

Actually, very nice. I don't mind the blue as it works with the sky.

    Re: Amsterdam

    Thanks guys.

Tom, it was the quality of light (time of night) that rendered most things blue here. The house was saved because it was somewhat of a show place with its own light.

CL, thanks maybe one day i'll produce such a book. don't have enough good images yet

GB, it's straight out of cam, cropped and sharpened. No PP at all.

penny, lol. I didn't even see that till u mentioned it. Now I can't look away.

Roger, thanks for the suggestion, i wasn't aware of those lights before u mentioned them.

    Ridge, me too. haha

I hadn't looked at this image too much really. Just a few glances when I was first sorting out my 2008 euro shots.

    thanks for the feedback guys.
