    American Flag with Sunset

The American Flag is one of my favorite subjects. This is the first one of the flag that I have ever taken with a sunset. The only post processing was the crop and slight sharpen.
This was an unplanned shot. My son's track meet was over and I was talking with another parent and before you know it the suns starts to set with some really good colors. ....well I grabbed my camera and started shooting.

I like this very much. I think you balanced the exposure perfectly. Well done. The colors are great.

I agree. The colors are great, but I really like the texture in the flag. One very minor nit, but I would probably like it better with more separation between the flag and the sun.

I really like it. If the red in the sky was deepened a little bit I'd frame it and put it on a wall somewhere...

mw......excellent capture. as for the colors, I like the sunset, and wonder if maybe a little more lightening of the flag would make it stand out more. Still...very nicely done. Something to ponder for future projects.

The shot I was trying to get has the sun where it is and the flag un-furled to the right giving space between the flag and sun. The flag and wind had their own ideas and this was the best I got out of about a dozen shots. Then the sun was too low to get the shot. I was also hoping for a better formed flag but this was also the best I got from this shoot. The good news is I can come back another time now that I know that its here. I too think the texture helps make this shot. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

    Mondo, Hickeroar, and John,

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. I was hoping to get some Post Processing Ideas. Post Processing is not my strong suit but I do plan on trying my luck and play around with this one. I will try and repost here with your suggestions.

Greg, Tyson and Frog. Glad you liked it. This one might end up on the wall. Thanks for your words of encouragement. I was very pleased with the color and texture that I was able to get out of the flag shooting in low light.

The one with the flag tip dipping down into the sun is also one of my favorites. Thanks.

    Re: American Flag with Sunset

Very good shot. The framing of this really works well with the flag over to the left and above the setting sun. The colors are warm and rich. I like the effect of the back lighting of the flag. It illuminates it and brings out the texture as another member mentioned. The lower corner of the Flag kissing the setting sun brings it up even more.
    Good shot.

What is it they say -
"Red sky at night, sailor's delight" !

Good solid shot with natural accenting and leading lines provided by the clouds. Congrats on the feature.

I hope you captured this in RAW so more possibilities are available for adjustment and printing prep.

    MW,

I think your idea of the flag being straight out wouldn't improve this pic.

Nicely captured and congrats on the sticky

    Roger

PS You could have ironed the flag first

I agree about the flag being straight not making much if any improvement. But because it wasn't what I was trying to capture at the moment it took sometime for my mind to say hey you still got a nice picture with all the elements that you wanted. And now that I have had sometime to digest it even further, I think this is the better pic. Thanks for the congrats.

PS Ironing the flag - As I age I am convincing myself that wrinkles add character.
