    Alotta birds

I was out Sunday night and saw these birds as the sun was going down.

The birds are impressive in their contrast with the sky + the number of them! Whats going on at the bottom though? Were you laying in the grass?

Thanks for your comment. I was shooting over a very large amount of wild rice. I wanted to have some sort of horizon in the picture and unfortunately the only way to do it was to include some of the tops of the nearby wild rice plants which are OOF and probably do detract from the picture. I tried cropping out the horizon but wasn’t as happy with the picture that way. I guess I needed a ladder that day.

Hahah my guess was better than I thought! I'm not sure what you could have done, but as you said I think its the weak spot of this photo.Depending on the quality of photo you took, you could do a more extreme crop of some of the birds / sky alone and play with the levels for an interesting shot. Blowing out the sky completely you could just draw attention to the mannnnny shapes of birds in flight.
