    Re: Almost A Man

First note that this is not a big deal, just something I am curious about.
I personally like this shot, which is obvious and all that matters.
It is a candle wick that I did not manipulate, and just found interesting as there seems to be character of sorts.
I have seen things "differently", always have, probably always will.
This is the problem of abstract. How to make the vision come alive to others, to make them see what I see.
Is it too far out there? Not clear enough? Or just not interesting?
I would love your thoughts on this this, particularly inre to this shot.

Hey Arne ...I would not have guessed in a million years that it was a candle wick. Do you think it was more interesting because you knew it was a candle wick? I do find this in my photography sometimes ...I saw something (including the context) and attempted to communicate this to others, however the context may not have carried over ...Do you have a shot where there is a candle stick, or surroundings to look at as well ...it may help. Those are my thoughts.

Thanks for responding llew. I don't like to have to explain what it actually is, since I feel that may stifle the imaginative process for the viewer. But it seems that people need at least a nudge to get them going.
This particular wick was deep in a glass container. I'll post it later to see if anyone may suggestions of a different approach.

    Re: Almost A Man

sorry arne, I had looked at this before, couldn't figure out what it was and didn't reallly know what to post so i moved on. it's really tough trying to give constructive critique when you can't make it out, and it's not very abstracty. had it been like your other CD shots which were abstract, that would've been easier to write something about it.

now that i know what it is, i think i can point a few things out.

technically i don't think this one works for me at all. there's a lot of dead space on the right that's kind of unnecessary. also, what's that black thing at the bottom? (the out of focus black line) that kinda ruins it for me also. i think this would've worked if he really got in tight so we can see the great textures.

Thanks, Liban, no need to sorry about anything, I'm just looking for some answers, a self quest, maybe.
Here is the candle and its holder (poorly photographed, but this one is for science, whatever that means).
