    Air Force Memorial-pick one.

I knew the sky was going to be clear. I knew the moon was nearly full. I knew that if I got there at sunset I would get some nice reflections in the pillars. I also found out how cold it was.

I got the full view, the somewhat abstract view and the tight view. Which one works for you?

Number 1 is great. I had not seen that memorial before. You got any number1's a few minutes earlier?
Please ask to edit photos and I'll do the same!

I'd pick the first one, too.

This was the first image I saved-shot about 4 minutes before #1. I spent about 10 minutes picking my spot and getting everything lined up then I discovered a spot on the lens so I lost the first few images.

    Re: Air Force Memorial-pick one.

Its a good thing I dropped my mouse on the floor and lost my connection before I submitted my first post as now I like this last shot best.
I, too, had picked number one until you posted this last one.
One thing I like is that the moon is in it and that there's just a touch of foreground at the base.
Lack of space above the left archy thingy hurts but not much.

I think your first is better,IMHO, looks like lower iso . I think you should magic wand just the memorials and bring the levels slightly darker. It might make the edges jump off the sky more..?.. Very nice composition.

First one is also my favorite. I think number three has potential. I don't know how much room you have around the sculpture, but when I look at #3 I say get far away from the sculpture an put the longest lens you have room for on to bring the moon into the shot more prominently.

That earlier dirt on lens shot has even better color than the others. It's amazing how fast things go from good to great to good to crappy in a sunrise/set isn't it? The dirt on lens shot has the best color to me, but could use a bit more room on top. Good stuff.

Very nice photo. How lucky you just need to wait for 10 minutes to get such a nice object. And very good angle too. Way to go, MB1

    Re: Air Force Memorial-pick one.

They're all nice in their own way MB. The top is most flamboyant, but also seems somewhat soft at the top (same with the image you later posted). The middle one is good but a little harder to place in context (also looks like an alien with tentacles). The bottom one is good but the background is tilted and the colors may be a bit too discrete. So they're all good but with a flaw or two. Not sure which one is best..

I too like the colors and exposure of the final image but I hadn't quite found the composition I was looking for. As you note, there just isn't quite enough sky above the top of the monument.

Ah well, it isn't going anywhere.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    Re: Air Force Memorial-pick one.

All are very good, but the first one from the first set of three is strongest. The foreground giving a base to the subject and some reference. Sky looks very good. the moon is too small to really add to the shot, but it is there and available for scanning for details. I take it this was shot with a fairly wide angle? I'm thinking that standing alot further away and zooming in to compress the scene would have given a much larger moon in relation, but I'll bet there probably was no way to position yourself far enough and avoid distractions in between you and the monument. Still very well done

I got almost as far away from the thing as I could without getting arrested and/or getting plants and buildings between me and the foreground. I could have moved back another foot or so but no real gain there.

The tallest of those 3 stainless steel curved spiers is 270 feet (the one on the left of my images). Really tough to get all 3 in the frame without a super-wide.
    No, I DON'T need that.
