payn, nice shot, but I think it would look better with just the glass. Of course, you may have intended the other things to be in it, so that's just my thought. After all, it is titled 'after the show', so that may be what you had in mind. It's also a little dark on my monitor.

I get your commentary here Payn. I am often overwhelmed by the excess in which we live. You've done a good job of balancing the highlights in the background with your shadowed subjects in your foreground. Would fit in well with a series but not sure that it would carry as strongly out of context.

    Cheers!

    Re: after the show

CL, absolutely correct. It would definately have to have a story, or other images to support it. I am glad you understood what I was doing here. I shot it because I thought they objects on the edge of the stage overlooking the empty chairs was kind of neat. I know something happened here, but not sure what. It looks like it may have been fun, but it's over now. That was the kind of thing I felt. Perhaps it is lost because it isn't obvious this is shot from a stage without my story. Another title may have been "about last night" or something similar. It is part of a series, kinda. I am doing a cherry blossom festival series with other local photographers.

John, perhaps you are right about loosing some of the objects. All the chairs in the BG were left in on purpose as described above. I may have to burn it some, I am not use to having all these different metering modes

Thanks for your thoughts on these, it is much appreciated.

P.S. Anyone know a good free monitor calibration software, this purchase has left me strapped.

    good free monitor calibration software
It requires hardware to be good.

I use the MK 1 human eyeball, and the greyscales at dpreview.com in each camera review.
When I press the "Fine Picture Mode" button on my monitor I can see the full greyscale/

    Payn,

I like the shot, though there's some hot exposure spots in the background that kind of worry me, especially in the top right. The foreground is relatively dark, so it really brings out the bright areas in the background. Maybe a little burning to balance things out.

    Great shot though, good concept.

    Payne,

I just went from eyeball to hardware Gretag tools and the difference is incredible

However if you have PS or PSE it comes with Gamma software which it puts on you machine. This is as good as any of the online stuff I looked at.
