    African Grey

I took this yesterday of our African Grey Parrot, the bird was actually co-operative for once.

I love those birds. So smart and so stuborn. I used to work in a Vet clinic that worked exclusively on birds. They had a rseident Grey. What a nutcase

I love the image. Brings back so many funny memories.

I like the level of details you captured here but I believe that your flash was a little too strong. Its nothing dramatic but I can tell by the glow on the Parrot and the shadow in the background. The color temperature seems a little cool too. Simply but, a slight flash compensation, and a white balance adjustment would do the trick.

    Re: African Grey

This is a relatively stark/bare composition. I'd like to see the bird in natural light, especially with varied, oof tones in the bkgrd. Esp. with some rich greens and browns -- forest like. Not all of the details showing are flattering, such as his/her beak has that kind of gnarly ridge. Some of the lighter tones are 'washed out,' have little detail due to over exposure.

The plain bkgrd and static composition just don't make it for me. Go on worth1000.com and look for judging on a current photography contest, named "Fowl Play 3" parts A+B to see some outstanding bird photos; and some hosers, too. Why would I suggest this? Looking at others' work is sometimes a good muse for me, and it's instructive: what makes it work, what breaks it?

Hope I'm not stepping on toes posting links to another site.
