    admirer or cut me down

i was out tinkering with the camera,(sony h5),when i placed my filter on then put my telephoto lens ontop, standing by my car for balance i zoomed in on this little flower weed,no bigger than a pencil eraser, it was sitting i the suns beam, i was pleased with the outcome,i was standing at least 15 feet away, .i also cropped it and downsized to upload.

it appears to be very out of focus...unless that was the look you were going for..?

I swear I'm not trying to be mean spirited. That looks like any average photo anyone might randomly snap haphazardly as a test shot or something....Can I ask you what possibly made you go through the trouble of actualy posting it here for consideration by others? Again, not trying to be a jerk, but perhaps you should be more judicious with your cameras delete button,

    Hi polarbeardiggers,

I appreciate the effort that you went through to get this picture. I think the flower details are very soft but the lighting is good. I have a hard time resisting great light too. The fact that you were 15 ft away probably made it harder for you to determine proper focus. Typically, if you are interested in flower pictures, the idea is to get as close to your subject as your focal distance will allow. With a compact camera you can also use the "Macro" [Flower icon] setting which allows your digital zoom to bridge the gap in the focal distance ~ you still have to be within a few feet of your subject though.

Your critique was much more patient and instructive then mine.

Haha, good point, use this forum to tighten up your shots before you attempt to get oohs and ahhs from your fam and friends. I love flower shots/macros. I am an amature myself, shooting for just about a year now. I am still learning as you are. My best advice would be to to just get in as close as you can to the plant or flower. Get a nice clean area of focus (pick the most interesting spot on the flower, look for strange or interesting, textures, and colors, look for any odd growths of buds, pay speciall attention to whats in focus, stamens, pistols, or the center of the flower bud, ect) hover over your subject moving the frame of view till you start to see something pleasing take shape. Snap away. Delete what doesnt work, keep what does. Hope that was a better critique.

I wish it was in focus, the lighting is very good.

The good thing not mentioned so far is that you "SAW" a picture. Developing an eye is a process and you've made a good start.
Sure, you'll need to hone your 'how-tos' but you're seeing what's worth shooting.
    Keep it up.
