Great Blue Heron in Flight

I took this photo at about 7:00 pm with my D70 and 75-300 lens set @ ISO 1600, and f/5.6 with 1/320. The shutter was about 2 stops slower than the meter suggested, but I thought he might take off and I wanted to get the speed up a bit. He came close enough that I couldn't fit him all inthe frame withthe 300mm zoomed out. This isn't a crop.

I toook out some noise with neatimage and adjusted the levels some in photoshop elements. Tell me what you think and how you would improve it, please.

i wish the wing wasn't cut at the top, but i love the picture.

Great picture. Good capture. But a bit less aperture and higher shutter speed would help you to get the motion of wings but capture the bird's sharp face. Also the cropping on the top wing leaves a sense of imcompleteness in the picture. I understand its difficult to keep these controls when these birds are flying in such high speed. Nevertheless I appreciate the picture.
