    12 Hours Later

    Hi All,
The first was taken with a Contarex with a 25 mm lens and the second was taken with a 10D with a 15 mm lens. Please criticise.

    Hello Yoyo,

I like both of them but the second one work better for me. I guess that I am more naturally drawn to night shots but my point here is that I feel that the second one is framed more pleasantly. I like the fact to be able to see the edge of the building (second picture) and the fact that the street lamp is slightly cut in the first picture annoy me a little. (The pedestrian of the first picture is very well captured though, I like the motion blur).

What exactly is that Contarex of yours? I cannot recall having ever heard that name before.

    Regards

    Seb

    Hi Seb,
Thanks a lot for your helpful comment. Contarex was made by Zeiss Ikon in the 60s and 70s. Because the management of Zeiss in that time was a 100% believer of perfectionism, so the camera was very well-built and had a very high quality (the camera has over 1000 parts to be assembled). Also, the cost was so high and due to other factors, Zeiss's finanical situation was seriously affected and they ecided to stop the production in the 70s. I got my on the eBay at a very resonable price. I really like it a lot.
    All the best.

    Hello Yoyo,

Thank you for those interesting precisions. Contarex's must be somewhat similar to Leica's considering how you are describing them.

I would say the second is the better , not just because of the more interesting lighting at night , but as Seb pointed out it is framed much better.
I dont know if you actually planned to do this "time lapse" type of shot, but I think that if you do it again you should use the same size lens and set up on a tripod marking your position on the street and height and note exactly how it was framed the first shot. Then come back again and set up the shot exactly as it was the first time. This way both images will be identical with the difference being the lighting and scene from a different time of day
