    Question Super Opportunity, Please Help...

I have a unique opportunity to sell 12 of my images to a hotel for display
in the guest rooms. Each room will have 2-3 of my images. It is a 215
room, National Park hotel. I have worked for the concession company for a
number of seasons and have an excellent working relationship with the
management of this company. Naturally, I don't want to jeopardize this deal
by over-pricing and I certainly do not want to sell myself short.

The problem is that I am not going to be responsible for any of the
printing, matting, framing, ect. They are looking to compensate me only for
the use of the images and that is where my involvement ends. How should I
approach the cost issue. I have never sold any of my work before and while
I have an idea of what I would sell for if I was doing the leg work, the
lack of my involvement in the finishing process has thrown me for a loop.
The images will be printed at roughly 20x24. Any help would be great.

Keep in mind that you are not selling 12 images but rather 430 to 645 uses of those images at 2-3 per room and 215 rooms. Is that the limit of use? What happens if after the sale, some get stolen from the rooms? Do you get a chance to sell them replacement copies? Are you retaining the right to all other uses and possibly resale of the images elsewhere? If a guest wants to buy one of your photos from his room, will he be directed to you?

Some questions that none of us can answer here include: What is the quality of your work and how does it compare with other photographers in your particular marketplace?
How will it print out, considering that 20 X 24 is quite large? Does your photographic style and technique have some impact and uniqueness at that size such that it would be noticed and evoke a positive response from most viewers? If there are photo galleries in your area, what is the average price of a 20 X 24 print?

What you need to do, is find out the average price and range in your particular area and market for 20 X 24 prints and then go from there, based on some of the variables that I have mentioned.

I no expert, but be easy on you first customers and here's my thought behind it. You have a golden chance to display your work and get your name out there. Hundreds of guest will get to see your images and as Ron said a few might be interested in buying your work. Make a good profit but, I would be a little below the average at first. I would be more concerned that the guest looking at my work would know who took the picture and how to get in touch with you, web sites and phone numbers. For sure you want to make some money and I can't help you with a price, but make your customer feel they are getting a bargain, but not buying a cheap product. Word of mouth by them to others may bring you more profits later on. Congrats for the sell too. I would love for you to post some that you sell .
