New Owner and I fell stupid

I just got the K10d in the mail today and have been playing with it all day. i have an issue with the 4gb card, it is not formating the card. The PC also cant format the card. I am not too worried about that. What worries me is that i dont see a preview in the LCD before i take a picture. What am i missing. i read the manual, nada. HELP I travel this saturday overseas!

    thanks

Does the 10D have live preview on the LCD? I couldn't find where that is a feature on this camera. Does it show an image on the screen after you take a picture? I have live preview on my Olympus 510 and you turn it on an off with a button.

Re: New Owner and I fell stupid

The K10D, like most Dslrs, does not have live preview - you have to look through the viewfinder, although you can look at your pic AFTER you've taken it. As I said, most Dslrs work like that.

Re the SD card - you can't format it in a PC and expect it to do in the K10D anyway. Put the card in the camera, then access the menu, toggle along to the right to the tools - the format command is a couple down - you have to put the cursor on that and then toggle right to get the format command. If you have any problems with this, PM me and I will do you step by step directions. And when you say it doesn't work - does it give you an error message? Or what?

Re: New Owner and I feel stupid

When the flash card is installed, the camera does not save files to the card. The error message says "display image is not stored." When i try to view anything on the card from the display button, the error says "this image cannot be viewed" I tried the formating from the camera, it errors out as well. I found a link somewhere that say i can try to format the card in the pc using DOS. Any help would be good. I am leaving to Cuba this saturday.

    Thanks

Sounds like you have a bad card. Go buy a new one. I had a card die in mid use. That's the first thing I would try. Or try someone elses card and see if theirs works in the camera. I wouldn't trust a cheap card on an important once and a life time trip either. Get a good one.

Many cards are guaranteed for life. You may not need to "buy" a new one, if you take it back where you got it. My SD card was replaced by Best Buy more than a year after I first bought it, at a different Best Buy 100 miles away. Good Luck

Raises the interesting question, which has been covered before: imo it is MUCH better to have a couple of smaller cards, than one big one. In my case, I have 8 x 1G cards.
