    New K100D Super owner.....

Hello all! I have been "taking pictures" for many years and I have finally been able to purchase a DSLR (my first SLR). I have a lot to learn and I'm tired of dropping money on things that I will later regret so I have come here for advice and wisdom. I am still learning the in's and out's (transitioning from 'taking pictures' to 'photography' ) and it gets a little confusing at times but it will come to me. I really enjoy Macro photography and it has inspired my first purchase mistake with this camera. I picked up THIS lense not really knowing what I was doing (and inspired by price) but I can already tell I am not ready for manual focus. I hope to make my next lense purchase a more educated one. I look forward to interacting with you all and absorbing as much info as my 33 y/o brain can absorb. Take care all!

Hello citcop...congratulations and welcome to the world of "photography"... You have definitely come to the right site for learning to improver your skills. I began learning photography about 2 years ago. I started with a Kodak p/s and eventually upgraded to a Pentax *ist DL.
This site has been the most instrumental site in teaching me how to take better photos. I have even taken the course at NYIP (New York Institute of Photography) but PR has taught me much more than any other site.
I think our strong point on this site is the willingness of everyone to be helpful and especially friendly. We have every skill level and specialization available and all are willing to answer any questions that you may have.
Some other forums that you may be interested in are: Viewfinder (basically our "gathering room"), The "Gallery", where you can post your pictures, and the "Photo Critique" area where you can post pictures for a more "critical" review of your photos.
As for your manual focus lens...as with everything, it takes time to learn how to properly use anything, even the autofocus lenses. Give it a chance, you may be surprised.
I hope you enjoy this site as much as I have and good luck with your photography. I look forward to watching your progress. Good luck.
    Ken
