Kinda new owner of Pentax K200D.. seeking lens advice..

    Hi,

I've had my camera since Christmas and now I'm interested in purchasing an additional lens. I am torn between the Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 DG Macro AF lens and the Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro lens.

So I guess I'm seeking advice, opinions.. anything really to sway me in either direction or a new direction completely.

I mostly take pictures of my twins and of friends at dog shows while they are doing agility or dog racing. Wish I had a faster camera with the racing.

    Thanks,
    carol

I use the Tamron and find it to be my favorite 70-300 out of the ones I have. Seems nice and sharp.

Try checking out the lens reviews on the Pentax forums (www.pentaxforums.com). They have reviews of third party lenses as well as Pentax.

Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD II Macro was the best of the 70-300 lenses but I would go for the Pentax DA 55-300mm F4-5.8 ED which blows away the 70-300 lenses..

Hi Carol and welcome to PR. Sounds like you are getting some good advice so far. Although I'm not up on lenses per se, I have learned that you really need to test out any lens before you purchase it. Many lenses have problems and abberations so take your camera in and take some test shots with the exact lens you want to purchase and test them out!!! If you notice any problems, try another lens until you get one that works right!
Anyway, good luck and again...Welcome to PR and the Pentax Forum.

Have you tried shooting with manual focus?

If not, i suggest giving it a go. You will find all kinds of great M42 lenses for your camera. Zeiss lenses are great.

Just get an adaptor and you'll be set.
