I had a little worry before starting the firmware update because I hadn't had a camera that needed anything like that. As usual, I needn't have worried because it was really easy to do following the directions.

I'm not sure that I need any of the things that it changes. Do the camera companies include any changes in the firmware upgrades beyond the few things listed on the websites? Should a person keep up with them even if one doesn't seem to change anything I'd use?

I suggest you always do a firmware update when announced. Often, it is like getting a new and improved camera.
