Any idea of when the Sigma 70-200 2.8 will be released?

This lens was announced in January, when should it be available? I'm thinking this will be my next piece of glass...

I called Sigma on this about 2 months ago. They told me it has been pushed back to January of 2009 :-[

The Tamron version (no HSM) will be out next month. (supposedly) and cost 1/2 as much as the Sigma.

Hmm... I don't like the sound of that. Crap, I was really looking forward to that lens.

Someone said more recently in another forum that they had contacted Sigma and were told that it would be released in August. I'm also anxiously awaiting its release and head-to-head comparison of it with the Tamron 70-200.

I just called Sigma of America and they said it should be released by the end of August

I just read my new issue of Pop Photo, and the new Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 looks like it will really put the Sigma lens to the test. I think I'll wait before I buy the Sigma.

Unfortunately, it was not. I believe they shot with a Canon. the Pentax version of the lens hasn't bee released yet (big surprise there).
