XD Vs. XD M???

Comrades:

We have an Olympus C-765 Ultra Zoom, which we are generally happy with -- until we got a new memory card and discovered that the camera does not like the XD "M" versions -- maybe it was just that one card, maybe it is all M cards. Of course, we can't find any plain XD, and the local camera places are a bit clueless...

Any help on this? Are there software issues? Do we have to search farther for the old XDs?

And what is the difference anyway?

I checked the Olympus xD compatibility chart, and the C-765 should support xD M-type cards at least up to 2 gigs in size, which is the normal max size (including type "M+"). What kind of card are you trying to use?

The only relevant difference between type M and the original is that type M's are a bit slower but are available in larger capacties. Note that Olympus' website states that the new type M+ is faster than the old type M.

Have you tried reformatting it in the camera? That may fix the problem. Sometimes cards just need to be formatted in the camera to smooth things out.
