Mirror lenses and the E-System cameras

Has anyone tried using a mirror lens on an E-System camera yet?

I saw one of these on ebay and I wondered what the advantages / disadvantage of mirror lenses. It would be manual focus only but for macro shots I can't see this as a bad thing.

Minimum focus distance is 5' 6" at 500mm zoom. Fixed aperture of F8.

    Anyone have any thoughts?

I have heard that those lenses can be a lot of fun, but for serious photography I'd stay far away from anything labeled Opteka.

Check out the link to the thread below. It doesn't deal wth Oly gear, but will give you some info on mirror lenses, and there is an image taken with a mirror lens.

Thanks guys. I wasn't exactly going to run out and spend money on an opteka lens lol. It was the only image I could find fast to post the thread.

Re: Mirror lenses and the E-System cameras

I owned a "cat" lens 20 years ago. I think it was a 650mm f/8 (brand long forgotten). As mentioned, the out of focus highlights are just too distracting. A shot with water or raindrops or the like in the background will become a total circus in your shot.

IMO, its a lens which works in a serious pinch - when you just HAVE to get the shot (think: surveillance ) or when you want to use your gear as a spotting scope.

If you're still interested, I can probably dig through my old slides and post some of my examples.

Sure Loupey. If you have the time that would be great. I have seen a few images taken with these lenses but nothing yet to show me a big difference.
