E-600 Flash Question

Hi All,

I'm new here, and also new to the DSLR realm. I recently bought an E-600, loving it so far. Quite the change from my point and shoot.

Here's the question: when I set it up for a 2nd curtain synch on the flash, the flash goes off twice, once at the beginning of the exposure, and once at the end. I know that can't be right, can it?

Anyone else use this feature? Anyone else getting a different result?

I wonder if it works that way on the built in flash, but will only fire at the end when using an external flash.

Any help is appreciated.

I think the first flash is a pre flash to give the camera enough light to focus in low light.

Could be, but it seems to be firing at full power, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

If you are using TTL auto flash, it sends out a 'test' flash to use to set the 'real' flash power for the proper exposure. - Terry

Does that mean that the first flash doesn't get onto the exposure? I am using the TTL auto, so maybe that's what it is.

My old film SLRs that had this feature never did that, so that's why I'm confused.

Correct, the first flash is before the shutter opens.

Did you use year sync with long enough time to see the two flashes on the film SLR? Other than that, ???

Thanks for the info. I guess it fires so close together that it seemed like it was flashing twice during the exposure.

As far as the film cameras went, it never fired twice, it only fired at the end. that's what got me confused about this camera.
