    aperture priority behavior on E510

I just got this camera as my first SLR and I'm confused by the way it behaves in aperture priority mode. I'll set my aperture and I'll see the camera set the shutter speed displayed in the LCD. But then after taking some photos I'll look at the LCD and it no longer shows me what my shutter speed is, and instead I see that the EV value has been changed. Even if I adjust my aperture again, the shutter speed no longer displays. But if I switch off of the aperture priority setting and then go back to it, then I get my shutter speed display again.

Is this something I've set somewhere in the menus that is causing this?

Have you checked the display right after depressing the shutter-release button? I don't have an E-510 to check. But I would guess that the camera displays the shutter speed when you change modes, and also when you depress the shutter realease. It can't show the shutter speed if you don't depress the shutter release because it doesn't meter until you do so.

If I've misunderstood you, I'm sorry. But you didn't say whether you were pressing the shutter release button. Hopefully someone who has an E-510 handy will post, too.

I think I've figured it out. The camera only meters when the shutter is half-pressed. So once I take a photo, it no longer meters until I press the shutter halfway again.

You are right here, I think My E500 does the same thing.

    How can I be lost
If I've got nowhere to go?
