    86mm ( Coarse ) thread for Sigma 50/500zoom

    Hi everybody,

I'm new to this forum, got a question for 50/500mm sigma owners. I just order a sigma 50/500mm from Amazon and I am confused about the filter size. Does this len require 86mm ( coarse ) threads? I wanted to order a better UV filter for it but Hoya and B&W doesn't list their thread size as regular or coarse, help please!

    Re: 86mm ( Coarse ) thread for Sigma 50/500zoom

I honestly can't remember. I believe that course threads would be correct. What I do know i that I ordered my Hoya UV filter at the same time as I order the lens from B&H so if I had made the incorrect order I am sure that they made the correction for me. That being said however I think I remember reading coarse threads on the box when I opened it.

I will have a look and see if I can find an answer by looking at the filter. If I do not return it's because I was right in the first place.

Ummm. Excuse me. I'm supposed to be the expert here. But I have no idea what "coarse threads" are. Please explain.

its like the space between the threading. sometimes the threads are seperated more or less...more being coarse, less being fine.
i have no experience with this lens though, sorry.

this one does specify 86mm x 5mm thick on the threads. and a customer review says it's used to protect the bigma 50-500.

I had no idea filters had anything other than standard threading. I just looked at the B&H site and they are listing the lens as having 86mm coarse threads under 'specifications' for the lens. (Only checked the one for the four thirds system, but I doubt they'd change the front of the lens for different systems).
