One is business related: the AlienBees Ringflash. My old ringflash is a dinosaur and not really compatible with my DSLRs. The AB unit seems well-made, has all the features I want, and is a great value.

I also ordered a new turntable from Amazon.com, an Audio-Technica AT-PL120. A "turntable" is one of those contraptions that plays those really large black vinyl music discs that were real popular many years ago before we had CDs and mp3s...

Anyway, I still have close to a couple of thousand record albums, and I figure it's about time I started listening to some of this music again, especially now that I have an iPod and can transfer what I want to my pc. I expect to enjoy the best of both worlds...

My other two toys are, well...cool toys. One is a handheld voice changer from the National Geographic Store. It lets you sound like an alien, a robot, that sort of thing. Too cool. I'll probably keep it by the phone and use it on telemarketers...

Finally, a toy I've been meaning to get for a long time now: the radio-controlled walking tarantula. If I have to explain why I need one of these, then you obviously don't know me. I just wish they had these years ago, back in my more mischievous days.

Suffice to say it is a must have... :yikes:

OOOHhhh! I was looking for red Christmas shoes. The ones I'm trying to find are red patent leather ballet flats by Steve Madden. Could only find the heels when I was out, and I was looking for something more casual.

We should have a Christmas shoe thread....

If Santa Wife falls for the D200, I just might go for a Tokina 12-24 or the 100mm 2.8 macro that they came out with. Of coursre I'd have to sell the D70 and hope she forgets abouit the money for the sale. No fun shooting in a small studio with the 80-200, the darn wall keeps getting in the way. A faculty/student version of CS2 might be on the list also.

Re: Are you getting yourself a gift this year?

Too much work and only getting done teaching and being a dad late at night. Been working on learning a few new platforms so that I can teach my students some basic lightwave and DVD authoring next semester. I did get a full day of seminars January 20 at the Palm Beach Photo Centre. Photographing kids with Ross Whitaker, Portraits with Harrison Funk and Close up work with Rick Sammon. No word on the D200 request yet, may have to wait for my 25th anniversary on January 15. Did you get the ring flash yet Steve, it looks pretty interesting for the make up add look.

Re: Are you getting yourself a gift this year?

i bought my dream machine computer for work (that felt like a christmas present as they said to me at the christmas party "buy whatever you want we trust you") I have a list of things i will probably get in the next couple of weeks during the january sales. I would have bought them before christmas but i sort of hinted i wanted them then waited to see if anyone took the bait. still santa was very kind to me.

Re: Are you getting yourself a gift this year?

No. Definitely not. I have everything I could possibly need. I will pass Christmas week in England with my hands in my pockets and not buy anything whatsoever.

Except - Frog says the Nikon 50mm f1.4 AF-S is now available. I wonder how much it is in the UK? Did they really drop taxes over Christmas to boost spending?

p.s. What I want I can't buy. I failed my Salsa exam last weekend. This is ridiculous. I'm level 3 (intermediate) in Cuban style but still only level 1 (beginner) in Porto style. My guidance wasn't clear enough. I just have to work at it and - invite the teachers to dance more often so they correct me..

Hey Steve, did you get that ringflash? Because AlienBees has a moon unit thingy that looks neat...is that the one?

If anything, I will be getting myself a new snow shovel, because we only have one. I probably will have to have it shipped in from somewhere warm, because we are out of stock locally.

But will they be able to deliver it before the snow melts ? looks like you were in deep...

I really need this program ....hint hint-

"HourPower is a new product from Timetumblers.Co that gives you those extra hours in each day that we've been asking for.
Using sophisticated time mapping and compression techniques to double the number of hours in the day, HourPower gives you access to 48 hours each day.
With the shareware hack HourMax, you can easily stretch your day to 60, 72, or even 96 hours!
Timetumblers.Co warns that at the higher numbers HourPower becomes less stable and that you run the risk of a temporal crash in which everything from the beginning of time to the present would come crashing down around you, sucking you into a black hole.

Should this occur, be sure to reboot with the shift key down. "

    A spare battery

I have found the one thing I didn't have and which is very useful - a spare battery for the D60. The ferry was really slow on Sunday night, I had time to review the day's images on the LCD of the D60 and marvel at the sharpness of the night-time ones of the docks and boat (thank you 16-85 VR lens). And then - gee whiz almost out of battery.

OK it's not very exciting but I couldn't find the 50mm AF-S anywhere

I don't even remember when I made a gift for myself, but I got used to receive presents from other people. By the way, there are special online shops aimed to provide you with custom gifts and presents, you can always check personal creations reviews if you want to.
