When to Replace a Mower Deck Belt?

My riding mower has started making a weird squealing sound, and I suspect the deck belt might be the issue. How can I tell if the belt needs replacing? Are there any early warning signs before it completely breaks? I want to fix it before it causes bigger problems.

Re: When to Replace a Mower Deck Belt?

A squealing sound usually indicates a worn or slipping belt. You can inspect it for cracks, fraying, or thinning—any of these signs mean it's time to replace it. Additionally, if you notice uneven cutting or reduced power, the belt may be stretching or slipping. It's best to replace it before it snaps to avoid further damage to your mower’s components. Always choose a durable and compatible belt to prevent frequent replacements. If you’re unsure about which belt fits your mower, you can find high-quality mower belts that are reliable and built to last. Regular maintenance, such as keeping the belt clean and properly tensioned, will also help extend its lifespan.
