    What are you listening to?
Right now, what's playing at your house?

I've got Prince, the Diamonds and Pearls cd, from 1991, and then the one where he changed his name, from 1992. I'm skipping around between the two.

Nothing is playing at my house, unless the dog turned the radio on. I have been listening to Warren Zevon here at work most of the afternoon.

Good grief, I get older faster than the years might indicate. During the past week, other than background radio, I've listened to Springsteen, Patti Smith, Joni Mitchell, Johnny Cash, and John Prine.

I don't listen to Cd's anymore, really. These guys in the OT forum got me to download itunes maybe a year ago and since then it is always playing on "shuffle" so I could hear anything at any random time. Right now it's Jack Johnson "Flake" before that it was George Harrison "My Sweet Lord."

I miss actually listening to CD's though. Think of all the cool off-tracks that people are missing by just buying the mp3 singles that they like online. I was just thinking of buying Nirvana's Nervemind album again because it brings back memories and it is a great album through and through.

btw, do you guys realize, it has been 15 years since that album came out?! Sheesh.

iPods rule. I have a car adapter where it sits in the trunk and works off of five playlists controlled by the car's radio. I also have playlists for stuff the band is working on. Then there's my addiction to podcasts...

I don't listen to CD's anymore either. At work, it's either Wisconsin Public Radio over the web, or iTunes. Most of the stuff I listen to on iTunes are photography podcasts. I also listen to music that other people here at work are sharing from their iTunes. That's where I found the Warren Zevon.

Right now I'm listening to WPR.

Adina, Whole Foods even has podcasts. Listen at the site or you should be able to subscribe thru iTunes. I know you will. :) Thinking about making a trip to the Milwaukee store this weekend so I was looking for the address - actually not far from where I used to live. Of course in those days ramen noodles were the norm and I wouldn't have been able to shop at Whole Paycheck Foods.

Loaded in the Navigator now is CCR, CSN, Harry Connick Jr., Sheryl Crow, Hootie and The Marvin Gaye Disc from Starbucks. I also punch between NPR and local News Talk Radio, being that my first job out of college was on-air talent at a Ft. Myers, FL. radio station.

Yeah, NPR is good but I find myself shying away from it recently. News about the world is just frustrating me nowadays and making me wanna drive off the road. I do learn a lot though. Science Fridays

Oh, and another thought about albums - are todays generations missing out on the experence of hearing a whole album? Taking the journey with an artist from track 1 through track 10 the way it was meant to be heard is different than hitting the shuffle button on your itunes. Downloading singles and swapping songs is a great convience but we're losing something with the loss of the album. Of course, when was the last time a popular artist actually created a wonderful album?? Ah, the good ole days... I sound old.

    Well said!
Listen to the whole CD, invest in the artist!
I can think of a few recent times when an artist created a "wonderful CD"..

OK I'll show my age and my tilt here but to me the greatest album as far as a theme and needing to listen to the whole thing was Willie Nelson's "Redheaded Stranger". You have to have the whole album to appreciated it. Yeah "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" stands on it's own but you are missing so much if you don't know the whole album. I have it on vinyl and CD. Swwweeeet! Another fan :)

Currently I have "February Stars" by the Foo Fighters playing on my laptop. I have a mix of MP3s that I listen to at work with a mix of Nirvana, Metallica, Foo Fighters, Live, Smashing Pumpkins, Guns 'n Roses, Velvet Revolver, Stone Temple Pilots, Frank Sinatra, and everything in between.

Edit: Post 600! Time to celebrate by riding my bike to my shoot this afternoon :)

Saw that one - and it's probably the best episode they ever did (high standards on that show, too). I agree on the whole concept of the album, if a song tells a story it's really only a chapter...

    I LOVE that CD!!

If you're a Johnny Cash fan, get the 5 disc box set Unearthed, and listen to all 5 discs straight through, from start to finish. I did that when I first got them right after his death. (Sometimes being stuck in a cubicle has it's advantages) It was an incredible listening experience. You can hear his voice change/deteriate as the disc's play on. It's kind of sad, but very touching at the same time. It's almost as if he is singing his own eulogy.

Huge fan of "old" country. One of my all time favorite albums is; Willie and Waylon- Clean shirt.

Don williams, Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash are also some of the "Old contry" that often finds their way to my stereo. In fact when my wife and I were married, at our reception party, our first song we danced to was Willie Nelson - I could get off on you.

Right now, I'm listening to some coworkers who don't have the common courtesy to be quiet while I'm surfing the web. Geez. :) Music wise, I've been listening to a lot of James McMurtry, Regina Spektor, Wilco, Calexico (heard of them, Rick?), lil'Audioslave for the drive home, and the most awesomest radio station ever, KGSR 107.1 (you can listen on the web if you want to hear what's playing in Austin.) I don't buy new CDs often, because I won't buy one unless I'm pretty sure the whole CD is good. The ultimate example is Bob Marley, Legend. That's my "if I was stranded on an island with only one CD" CD. Nevermind the issue of electricity...minor detail.

Heck yeah! He plays here every Wed night at the Continental Club. I've seen him a couple of times. Once I was close enough to read the obscene stickers on his guitar. Austin has spoiled me like that. If I can't see what chords they're playing, it's not worth going.

I saw some photos Steve posted from one of his shows. Cool stuff.

I've had Robyn Hitchcock Black snake diamond role and I often dream of trains on repeat for weeks. Yesterday I mixed it up with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club howl. I'm a stalwart album listener - I usually put them on repeat and listen to the several times, the nice thing is I only end up owning really good albums from really good bands - cuts down on the accumulated junk that builds up in a music collection. White light/white heat, the velvet underground, or the modern dance Pere Ubu have made appearences recently, as has Come on pilgrim by the Pixies. Except when my wife is in the room, then I drive her crazy by listening to The Band or America - she calls it my "old man music."
