Re: Thank God for our govenment

    I googled a bit ...

"The life of a CFL is significantly shorter if it is only turned on for a few minutes at a time: In the case of a 5-minute on/off cycle the lifespan of a CFL can be up to 85% shorter, reducing its lifespan to the level of an incandescent lamp.
The US Energy Star program says to leave them on at least 15 minutes at a time to mitigate this problem."

So let me get this straight.
It's only a cost saving if you leave it on for at least 15 minutes.
If you use it like an ordinary light, then it uses less energy but it lasts only as long as a conventional lamp and costs more.

I dunno, I can't remember the last time I had a light on for less than 15 minutes - did I miss something? They save me quite a bit of money, and energy, every month. The big "C" connection is unfortunate, maybe some american company making lightbulbs in china should make lightbulbs in america. Seems kind of odd, this day and age - american company, american consumers, american manufacturing...what a concept!

And, this guy would probably try to tell us that smoking was good for us if they paid for his next campaign...I seriously doubt he cares about what the government legislates. Merely a pawn.

what a waste of time and money. They give soooooo much money to walmart every year, and get nothing but economic decimation in return, that I'm sure they could find a little bit to make CFL manufacturing attractive in America. Seems so much easier to make the switch attractive to producers, rather than MORE legislation...

I have my bathroom lights on and off all the time, went through 2 cfl lights already in there, my entire house uses cfl lights, and those are the only ones that went out. Its the transformer that gets blown early in this event, I believe. But yes, I turn that light on and off frequently, only recently learned about this, will start using regular bathroom lights now on and the rest will be CFL.

It won't be in California, that's for sure. China may be a totalitarian country, but it's got less red tape than the other big C. Our most recent fiasco, unilateral CO2 cuts- a local solution to a global problem, except it just exports the CO2 production out of the state, then we generate even more CO2 to import the products back. (Arnold is proving to be a very good California Democrat. I bet he sleeps under a pyramid).

The latest Arnold news- imagine the Austrian accent- "To prove I really am a heartless Republican- because of a budget impasse with the Democrats in the legislature I will lower the pay of all state employees to minimum wage by executive order." Now, I may have the quote off a little, but that's the gist of it. Who knows what the heck he is. It's right out of a Simpson's script, so maybe he is a Democrat trying to torpedo the Republican party, or maybe he is just completely out of touch. "Do what I say or I will torture this fuzzy little bunny rabbit with my powerful muscles." That's the way to win friends and influence people- especially if the the bunny is part of a powerful union and can vote.

I actually like the fact that Arnold did that. Instead of sitting around with his thumb up his butt waiting for the State Legislature to agree on a budget plan, he's taking action. Since he is dealing with politics, you can't really takes actions like this for face value only. I highly doubt he really wanted to cut wages for state workers, or close nearly 50 state parks, etc. He is simply trying to provoke the legislature to get something done for once. He is showing them the reality of what will be the things to come if they don't start getting things done. Arnold is my governator, and right now I wouldn't have it any other way. Thanks Arnold for having the balls to do what it takes to make things right for California.

This is the first I've heard of this, but I must admit I LIKE it!

"What's that? Party politics? That's OK. Red tape, you say? Fine, fine. But if you're not going to DO your job, we're not going to PAY you for your job. See how that works?"

Nice. I'm with Canuck on this one. And I'm willing to bet that the legislature will be able to iron out their differences.

hehe.."the canuck" hehehe...ice hockey and poutines

actually that vid reminded me of a legislation that was being ruled up here ... $20 million or something to recycle batteries effectively or some bs like that. To think that my proposition to use that money for establishing portable ultrasounds and 2 more CAT scanning facilities in rural communities was thrown out for that ...sigh gov't has a long way to go ..especially the democractic one

I don't know what any of this has to do with light bulbs but wouldn't it be a better idea for Arnie to hold back the legislatures pay than the state employess who after all are the people that actually do work.
I was a state employee for Washington state most of my life and worked for every thing I got.
