    Sick of junk mail?

Me too. A few days ago (yes, once again on NPR), I heard about Catalog Choice. It's a free service where you can request not to receive catalogs from a lot of different places. Register for an account, select the catalogs and you're done. It's best to enter your customer number on the back of the catalog, but I tried several of them both ways just now and I should stop seeing them in 10 weeks, they say.

Benefits - less stuff to haul out to the recycling bin each week, stores save money by not printing and mailing catalogs you might not even look at, and less wasted paper. A few of these catalogs are from places I regularly buy from but I don't need the catalog, just the website. Wish B&H was on here, they mail out those huge catalogs once in awhile which I don't need.

I only wish there was something like this for credit card offers - how many times is AT&T going to send me a final notification on their latest deal?

    Re: Sick of junk mail?

Thanks for the link Steve. I will have to check it out when I get home. For some reason, the filter at work has blocked the Catalog Choice website, saying it's a "spam URL". I wonder if it could be because I work for a company that sends out millions of catalogs each year. I smell a conspriracy!

Ever give anything to charities? They apparently give/sell/exchange your info with every other charity on the planet, and next thing you know you have more junk mail than you know what to do with....... I went on a 5-day vacation and came back and had no less than 43 letters from charities in my mailbox. What's even worse is that they've somehow gotten ahold of my telephone number (Argg...). And they're exempt from the Do Not Call law.

    Re: Sick of junk mail?

Have you ever returned your junk mail with the prepaid envelopes they send? Not sure if it will get you off their list, but if they have to pay postage to have their crap returned to them, they might think twice about sending it to you.

I have done it with the local electric company. They always send a bunch of junk with your montly bill. Of course I have to pay the postage, but they have to deal with it when they open it up. I hasn't helped any, but it made me feel better.

I think I might try that!

I know what you mean about charities - I have a few I've chosen to donate to, and apparently at least one of them has sold my name to every other charity on the face of the earth. Sorry but my last name isn't "Gates", I need to keep a little bit of it to pay my own bills...
