    Need help-IPod Choice - question

I'm trying to decide which Ipod to get - and need to make a quick decision since I have until tomorrow to buy through Paypal and get $15 cash back.

The choice is between the 3rd and 4th generation Nano - there is only $10 difference in price so my decision isn't based on price.

    Size
The Nano 3rd generation is wider. Regarding the video - wouldn't this be much better to see due to the larger screen? OTOH - I wouldn't be using the video a whole lot.

    Adaptor
Both come with a "dock adaptor." Does this mean that most IPod docks will work with both the 3rd & 4th generation? And/or others - past and future? Or do the sizes keep changing so that you have to buy different IPod docks?

I certainly don't need more than 8GB which they both have.

Any other differences that I should be aware of?

Here are the links to the Ipods with photo and specs

    4th generation

Thanks for any help and/or advice or information.

I would get the fourth generation. Smaller profile and more accessories are in that size. Of course if you can, maybe try and find a Touch. My wife has a touch, used to have a nano, and that is her most prized possession right now. It plays video, pictures, and music very well.

Thanks! I appreciate the info - I'll check out the touch. Probably beyond the budget! Very tempting though!

I bought my wife a refurb touch from the apple store online. It was only 178.00 and comes with a 6 month warranty. I don't know how much the current gen nano is, but I have bought 2 refurb ipods from apple and both have worked flawlessly.

I have a refurb MacBook Pro and it's been great for the last year and a half - at a 25% discount. However, I don't think they take paypal. For iPods, I'd go with the latest version. Last year's (or week's it seems) model usually isn't much less expensive and they always come up with some cool new ideas for the latest generation of products. Sorry but I don't know anything specific about the Nano.

So $15 back on Paypal? I didn't get that one otherwise I'd probably pick up a shuffle to go with my iPod Video. Might do it anyway.

I got an email about 5 days ago from Paypal telling me that I could get $25 cash back if I purchased something through Paypal from any dealer that takes it. The rule to get the cashback was to spend $50 and get $10 back - then a spend another $50 and get $15 back from the 2nd purchase. I purchased a camera from B&H for a friend (actually it's her purchase for her 13 y/o daughter). Caught a good deal to begin with - a really decent Samsung p&s for $69. So my final purchase will be the Ipod. I'm going for the Nano 4 - 8GB. Looks good to me. It's $137 no shipping - tax free - and I'll get $15 from Paypal.

    Liz,

I know that I am late to the game and you most likely ordered the 4th generation already. Just a little information about the speaker docking stations. If you do purchase one make sure that it also charges the 4th generation Nano. It seems like Apple has changed the voltage of all the new I-Pods and all the existing speaker docking station do NOT changer the I-Pod while it plays.

Like I stated I don't know if this is something that you are also going to purchase but something to think about just in case.

    James,
I do appreciate this information. I got a hint of this when checking out reviews on radio/IPod docks. My friend just got an IHome Ipod radio and I was thinking of one, so I'll have to check that. The IPod should be here tomorrow.

    Thanks again.
